Troubleshooting LIMEWIRE

Limewire is a computer program used to download files from the Internet. It uses "peer-to-peer" technology, which means that instead of connecting to a website to download a song or movie file, you are connecting directly to someone's computer. Installing Limewire is a relatively simple process, but some users may still experience a variety of problems. Luckily these problems can be troubleshooted to ensure that the program is installed correctly and ready to use.

    Minimum System Requirements

  • Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Limewire. Limewire requires a computer with at least 64MB of RAM and an Internet connection. Limewire also requires either a WINDOWS OS, the Mac operating system, or some kind of Linux or Unix operating system. If you are running any other type of operating system, you will not be able to install Limewire.
  • Installation File

  • Get your installation file from a reputable source. Limewire is available free of charge from a number of different websites online, including its official site at LimeWire.com. Certain malicious computer users may disguise computer viruses or spyware as popular files like the Limewire installation file. If you haven't gotten your Limewire installation file from a reputable source, there is a chance that it could be one of these malicious files that is attempting to damage your computer.
  • Administrator

  • Log in as Administrator. To install any program in the Windows OS, you must be logged in as an Administrator. If you are not logged in as an admin, or you are logged into an account that has program installing disabled, your Limewire installation will not work. To fix this, select the "Log Out" option from the "Start" menu. Log in as the account that has the term "Administrator" listed next to it. Then try your installation again, and it should work as intended.
  • Uninstall

  • If you already have a previous version of Limewire installed and are upgrading to a new one, uninstall the old version before installing the new version. This will help avoid problems during installation as well as remove unnecessary short cuts on your desktop and Programs menu.

Navigate to the Control Panel (found under the Start menu) and select the icon that reads "Add/Remove Programs." Click on the listing for Limewire and then select the "Uninstall" button. This will uninstall the old version, at which point you can then proceed with your new installation.
